A woman who used the phones of taxi drivers and then disappeared after that was jailed a total of five months on Wednesday for criminal breach of trust and various other offences.
Wong Yee Fong, 35, who faced 26 charges, admitted to four counts of criminal breach of trust, two counts of cheating and one each of theft and fraudulent possession.
A district court heard that Wong, who was working in a spa, was a passenger in the victims' taxis when she used their phones on the pretext of talking to her maid or to a customer in October 2011.
When they were not paying attention, she would walk away.
She then took another cab to Bedok Bus Interchange and sold the phones, using the proceeds to pay her debts.
She had also misappropriated $150 from her employer, Snip Avenue Salon, in September 2011 when she was asked to deliver an envelope with $1,109 from the salon to the main one in Tampines.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nicholas Ngoh told the court that in 2009, whenever she had an argument with her husband, she would take his credit cards from his wallet without his knowledge.
She would then use the cards to pay for food, jewellery or taxi fares.
In August 2011, she used her then husband Ronnie Tan Guan Hin's credit card to buy jewellery totalling $1,545 from two jewellery shops in Jurong West, pawned them and spent the money.
Following a spate of reports from members of the public of a female passenger who failed to return mobile phones, Wong was arrested on Oct 26, 2011.
While out on court bail, she stole an $800 Samsung Galaxy Tab from a manicurist in March 2012.
She was re-arrested and committed yet another offence in May while out on court bail. She had again targeted a taxi driver and misappropriated his iPhone and iPad totalling $1,946.
Her lawyer said Wong, who is divorced with two children, committed the offences out of desperation and depression caused by her ex-husband's affair with their domestic helper.

If she is really in depression, she really need to see a doctor.
If not, she deserve even more punishments.
