My thoughts for Mr Tan Chuan-Jin

By Daryl Tan | Posted: 08 August 2012 1813 hrs

SINGAPORE: Acting Minister for Manpower Tan Chuan-Jin has said Singapore must continue to attract foreign companies and skilled workers.

Mr Tan also stressed that Singaporeans must form the backbone of the country's workforce.

The acting minister was speaking at the Ministry of Manpower's National Day observance ceremony on Wednesday.

Mr Tan, who is also Senior Minister of State for National Development, said his priority was to improve worklife balance.

"We all know that we work many hours in Singapore, and that's something that we ought to look at -- whether we can be more efficient in the way we work, to work smart," the acting minister said.

"Personally, I think there are a lot of poor work habits, so we end up actually working longer than we need to. But, those are things that we can eradicate. Volume of work is one part."

Mr Tan also wants to integrate more older workers in the workplace, while accommodating the young and educated.

PS:
Dear Mr Tan,
Good to know that feel this way.
But we really need to see some actions to it.
Jobs that Sporeans don't want, no choice got to bring in foreign workers.
But jobs that Sporeans want, pls control the in flow of foreign workers.
Pls also control the quality of foreign workers.
This is 1 of the case that 1 policy don't fit all.
